The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX30 we could now test extensively.
It is the successor model of the DSC-TX20 and has compared to the previous model a modified objectviv and a greatly improved image sensor. The resolution of the 1 / 2.3-inch Exmor-R sensor now solves 18 megapixels in the new model, DSC-TX30, with a resolution of 2 megapixels.
A significant feature is the increased sensor range, which now ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 12,800. However, it must be noted that ISO 6.400 and ISO 12.800 can only be achieved with an effective noise reduction which, due to the built-in software, makes several images into one image.
If you are looking for manual programs in the Cyber-shot DSC-TX30, look for them in vain. Manual programs are faulty, but they are richly equipped with an automatic program, two full automatic programs and several scene programs as well as type filters. In the test, we thought this was quite sufficient.

Picture quality
The image quality of the TX30 is typical of the small Sony compact cameras: as long as you do not zoom too much in detail, you get an excellent quality; Colors and contrast are authentic for this camera. Purists or Pixel-Peeper may feel the images at a very strong magnification probably a bit too noisy. It should be borne in mind that in the background the software works very strongly, so that a photographically balanced image can arise.
video
The video friends will have nothing to complain about with the quality including sound. In our test series, the camera had a convincing performance on this field. Even with higher ISO (more than 400), the camera still delivers very appealing shots.
The HD videos are of clean and good quality and also on the TV in large format best playable. In the test, both above and under water was photographed and filmed. Again, the camera showed a very good side in terms of operation and result.
Video recording can be realized with 50 half images per second at full HD resolution in the AVCHD format, the sound recording is done via an integrated stereo microphone on the camera top.
Touch function
The developers have succeeded in using the touch screen. The display responds without delay and quickly. Great is, that one can assemble its individual menu with the most important functions themselves. As with other well-tested brand cameras, the Sony DSC-TX30 can of course also be used to determine the focus by pressing on the display.
Macro property
A real highlight is the macro / magnifying mode. Even in the zoom position, the photographer can approach the subject almost to the lens. This opens up a remarkable field of activity for macro photographers as well. In our test series, really convincing macros were "shot".
Another useful innovation should be the built-in (switchable) LED lighting. This is something the photographer has to look for in this class for a long time! We have not found this in any other compacts so far.
focus
The autofocus function quickly and correctly in all positions, even in difficult light conditions, the camera still allows a targeted focus.
Outdoor capability
The outdoor capabilities of the digital camera is remarkable:
It is waterproof up to 10 meters, and from a height of up to 1.5 meters, the camera is classified as unbreakable. Temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius is the DSC-TX30 loose away.
