the Casio CTK 2400 is a beginner keyboard and to be the successor of the CTK-2200. On paper it looks at first, as if not much had changed. As far as possible the basic data in the new model correspond to those of its predecessor. However, Casio touts improved sampling function. Generally, the entry-level keyboard offers the auto accompaniment. It is suitable especially for beginners and occasional keyboard player, after it has no velocity-sensitive keyboard. But who would like to operate the keyboard playing more seriously, the wishes usually velocity. Its selling price is relatively cheap to buy the keyboard CTK-2400. There are also devices for even cheaper prices, which offer also the velocity-sensitive keyboard at the present time.

Optics, delivery and control panel

has not much changed compared to its predecessor and so there is a very similar appearance, the same weight, the same mass and also the Matt black plastic case like the CTK-2200. Now, the caption is yellow instead of green and otherwise everything seems the same. A novelty is however at the second glance, so there is a built-in microphone near the display. This microphone is suitable for the use of the built-in sampling function. There is the battery compartment for six AA batteries in the base of the housing and thus the keyboard can be used independently of a socket. In the scope of delivery, there are a power supply and also a note holder holder. The wireframe effect with relatively cheap and therefore inadequately served its purpose. The loose leaves can fall through just back here eventually. Unfortunately, there is no sustain pedal included. There are a plus, because a Songbook with sheet music is included. There are no surprises during the Panel and so there is as usual the buttons for controlling the auto of accompaniment, the volume control and power switch left. In addition, there is also the function button, which opens an advanced setting. There's also the button for the metronome and two buttons for the pace. The sampling probe from his predecessor was saved now and so there's this function as a secondary layout of two other buttons at the CTK-2400. The LCD display has been arranged centrally and it was unfortunately not lighted up. In bad light the display can be read off therefore. Otherwise is the size as when the predecessor and below are song, rhythm, and timbre. The fingering graphics known from Casio, note graphics and keyboard graphics are found. At the right side, songs, rhythms and sounds can be selected. Bank, rhythm or tone can be selected to song with one of the three buttons. Everyone can then scroll through the selection and enter directly desired numbers with the numeric keypad. With the buttons Bank and rhythm song different sampling modes can be called. On the right side there are also also h or buttons for the training function.

The connections, the keyboard and the speaker

when the purely externally not much changed compared to its predecessor. The keyboard has even the headphones or stereo output, a USB port, to the sustain pedal and an audio input jack except the power adapter port. At the USB connector, MIDI data is received and sent and therefore the keyboard with a music software can be used. It is possible but not the transfer of user data, rhythm, song data between the computer and keyboard. The audio input cannot have more than sampling source be used and is used only for the built-in microphone. There are 61 keys in the keyboard and the piano look is common for Casio. The expressive possibilities are somewhat limited without velocity and she plays spongy. Models with the velocity-sensitive keyboard are more suitable for a long-term fun. The speakers are just like the predecessor model and plastic mesh to protect the two 10 centimeter big speaker. They are supplied with 2 x 2 Watt amplifier system. The speaker does not convince by a rich, balanced sound and they distort at high volumes. The sound is sufficient for getting started, but it will not provide the discerning ears.

The sounds at the Casio CTK 2400

there are 400 tones and these include the sound selection of world music sounds, synth sounds, basses, guitars, brass, strings, organs, electric pianos and pianos. With on board is also the GM sound palette. There are many beautiful sounds and the proposed fine for the price goes. Correct highlights are searched in vain and most sounds are typical traits of a cheap keyboard and mono are sampled. The sound is fairly static, the decay stages are unnatural and there are short loops. The selection was not changed compared to its predecessor, making it something out of date. For the rounding, there is the Hall effect, which can be adjusted in 10 levels. It corresponds to the class and unfortunately there is no chorus effect. The buyer must do without on layer and split functions. The 15 rhythms are known also by its predecessor and as the sound it can cover a wide range. 110 songs are integrated and there's twenty special pieces, simple piano literature, classic and traditional.

Conclusion

The Casio CTK-2400 it is compared to the CTK-2200 only a careful revision. Rhythm & sound stock it meets exactly the predecessor, whereby they become somewhat obsolete in the meantime. There are unfortunately no velocity and thus there are limited possibilities of expression. The integrated microphone is a novelty, and it is used with the sampling function. Noises or your own voice can be recorded to and she could be played in rhythms or on the keyboard.
